When do the 10,000-15,000 Jobs Come to Pettengill Road?

The Union Leader reported that another large facility will open in 2017 on Londonderry’s Pettengill Road if all goes well. F.W Webb is relocating from it’s 400,000 square feet facility and will build one of the largest structures in New Hampshire at 1,000,000 square feet.

F.W Webb plans to retain it’s current 140 employees and relocate them to Londonderry, but “company doesn’t have immediate plans to hire more people in Londonderry”

But where are the 10,000 – 15,000 jobs that supported the initial investment inPettengill?

While this is a tax positive facility for Londonderry, it’s a loss to Amherst and the creation of jobs is nill.

  1. Since the master plan was done, many warehouse facilities are going to robots to do the stacking and sorting. they work 24/7. They require little human intervention.
Warehouses use to have hundreds of “pickers” working the rows. Not so anymore. Just like manufacturing, more robots are doing the work.
I think you will see more jobs coming as the area fills out. But they will not be high paying jobs. Remember we have to compete with $1/hr countries. So much for free trade.
