Richard Flier is currently in a battle with the town to save a 150 year old tree on his property on Adam Road. Flier is building a new house at 53 Adams Road. The problem boils down to a 150 year old tree that impedes the sight distance on the road by six inches. Adams road is scenic byway, but the Town wants the tree removed.<\/p>\n

Flier attending the 324\/2016 Heritage meeting pleading for the committee to attend a future Planning Board meeting and speak on behalf of protecting the tree. He also mentioned a letter he had received from the Town that has new requirements that must be met before a certificate of occupancy for the new home is granted. Flier cannot secure a mortgage on the new home without a certificate. Flier will be returning to the Planning Board in\u00a0April to argue his case.<\/p>\n

If Flier had not purchased the property and built a new home would the town have removed the tree? Ar the 2\/3\/2016 Planning Board meeting\u00a0Flier offered an alternative to cutting down the tree, trim the roots to achieve the sight distance. The trimming may cause the tree to die.\u00a0Interestingly at the end of a long discussion Flier asked if the tree were to die would the Planning board allow it to be cut down. The Planning board said he would need to return and ask permission to take the tree down.<\/p>\n
