{"id":614,"date":"2016-04-03T06:00:02","date_gmt":"2016-04-03T10:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/townunderground.com\/?p=614"},"modified":"2016-04-03T06:00:02","modified_gmt":"2016-04-03T10:00:02","slug":"lt-funding-drainage-project-under-consideration-for-town-common","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/townunderground.com\/?p=614","title":{"rendered":"LT: Funding Drainage Project Under Consideration for Town Common"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"entry-title\">From the Londonderry Times:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/londonderrytimes.net\/2016\/03\/funding-drainage-project-consideration-town-common\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Funding Drainage Project Under Consideration for Town Common<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<time class=\"entry-date updated\" datetime=\"2016-03-31T16:05:14+00:00\">March 31, 2016<\/time> <span class=\"byline\"> by <span class=\"author vcard\"><a class=\"url fn n\" title=\"View all posts by Kaitlyn G Woods\" href=\"http:\/\/londonderrytimes.net\/author\/kwoods\/\" rel=\"author\">Kaitlyn G Woods<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Heritage Commission considered conceptual plans for a solution to drainage issues on the Town Common last week.<\/p>\n<p>Comprehensive Planner John Vogl said town engineers evaluated the property and have proposed installing a total of 400 feet of pipe to direct water that flows from the Presbyterian Church away from the bandstand in the direction of the apple orchards, as well as toward a brook located near Mammoth Road.<\/p>\n<p>Public Works Director Janusz Czyzowski and Assistant Director of Public Works John Trottier estimate the project would likely cost around $200,000 to complete.<span id=\"more-32379\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the project would be funded through a warrant article.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe details are not there yet, but the process would be for us to talk about it, get our ideas out and get this into a workable presentation for the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) Committee,\u201d member Art Rugg told the Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Vogl noted the project may also require the installation of catch basins on the Common, as well as grading of the site.<\/p>\n<p>No further electrical upgrades are needed on the Common, but the Commission has discussed installing Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>Member Tom Bianchi asked if the Town would seek a second opinion from outside contractors.<\/p>\n<p>Vogl said the Town is trying to handle internally as much of the project as possible to cut costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt saves us money to keep as much as we can in-house,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Department of Public Works can\u2019t complete all the work, so some will need to be contracted out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Heritage Commission, with input from members of the public, identified addressing drainage issues on the Town Common as the highest priority improvement for the property.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be nice when you put your blanket down for a summer concert; it won\u2019t get soggy,\u201d Rugg said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Londonderry Times: Funding Drainage Project Under Consideration for Town Common March 31, 2016 by Kaitlyn G Woods The Heritage Commission considered conceptual plans for a solution to drainage issues on the Town Common last week.
