LONDONDERRY — The chairman of the Solid Waste and Recycling Committee said Tuesday, March 22 that he’s optimistic that Beautify Londonderry, the town’s annual spring cleanup project, will take place next month as originally planned.
Last week Paul Margolin had announced that his committee didn’t think it would be able to move forward this year after member Kerri Stanley, who had coordinated Beautify Londonderry for the last six years, had resigned in December. Stanley said that her new role as president of Londonderry Youth Soccer wouldn’t allow her the time to manage the complex job of coordinating volunteers, individual programs and contributed resources.
But on Tuesday, Margolin said there was hope things will work after all.
“The program is back on track after we found some people to step up and run things,” he said.
While Margolin said it was premature to name particular individuals who may fill Stanley’s former management role, the new volunteers included some “with the bandwidth to lead the charge.”
“We have two people in particular and they may be brining two or three more,” he noted. “These are residents who have not been involved before.”
A preliminary meeting took place Wednesday, March 23 at Town Hall. Anyone interested in supporting the project is invited to attend; If you’re unable to be there, you can contact the committee at 434-7019.
