TOWN OF LONDONDERRY will be having elections in two weeks. It is not in the normal course of business for us to weigh in. We do not endorse candidates ever.
On the other hand, in LFGC’s rear view mirror is the completion of the Club building.
First, our club members who are residents, we encourage you to vote thoughtfully. There are a number of candidates seeking to unseat current incumbent members. Only you can decide (not LFGC) whether or not to keep or replace the sitting Councilors up for election. As the author of this post, I reside in Manchester so I have no dog in this fight. But, as the LFGC Leader, here are some things to consider…
1. Have/has the council members been truly transparent?
2. Have the town manager consequences/situation been fully realized?
3. If the Councilors running as an incumbents, having held a seat for 5+ or more years, acted to do anything at all to improve how town government delivers services?
With that said, I can tell you there was a fair amount of buffoonery and tomfoolery afoot during the planning process of our building project. No conspiracy against us, just rank incompetence. Stupid stuff that should not have happened. Back when we submitted the “As Built” for the 200/400 yard range, the town Building Department lost or misplaced it and LFGC had to provide the town a second copy.
Lastly, there needs to be accountability for the Malaguti debacle. For our part, this town manager had a personal vendetta against LFGC. I’ve interacted with town managers from time to time over the years…from David Caron, to Bill Hart to Kevin Smith and was always able to be heard. There was always a line of communication. With Malaguti, on the other hand, He NEVER addressed club concerns, and sent emails ranting and scolding and threatening us. Of course, I responded in kind and the relationship devolved into communications through legal counsel only. A complete and utter breakdown. When brought to the attention of the Senior most Councilor, the situation was minimized. “He’s young…we just need to coral him to think less like a lawyer and more like a town manager,” I was told. The fact is he was never right for the job and the decision to hire him was a terrible one.
Finally, when there is a citizen within the town of Londondonderry who spent his/her own money to have signs printed that read, “RESIGN MEATHEAD MALAGUTI,” then spend the time to post them around town, that speaks volumes.
I’m not here to tell you who to vote for or how to vote (except definitely consider NOT voting for Tammy Seikman) But to consider just how well (or not well) the town runs as a basis for your choice.
