Londonderry Fire Department Becomes First in New Hampshire to Issue Two Sets of PFAS-Free Turnout Gear to All Members
Londonderry, NH — February 12, 2026
The Londonderry Fire Department is proud to announce a major advancement in firefighter health and safety with the full transition to PFAS-free structural firefighting turnout gear. The department has issued two brand-new sets of protective gear to each operational member, reinforcing its commitment to reducing occupational exposure risks while maintaining the highest level of protection for emergency responders.
With this initiative, Londonderry becomes the first fire department in the State of New Hampshire to provide all operational members with two complete sets of PFAS-free turnout gear, and one of only a handful of departments nationwide to successfully execute this level of transition.
The new gear is manufactured by Globe Manufacturing Company, based in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, a nationally recognized leader in firefighter protective equipment. By partnering with a New Hampshire manufacturer, the department is also supporting local industry and innovation.
This next-generation ensemble is engineered to meet and exceed current NFPA standards while eliminating intentionally added PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), often referred to as “forever chemicals.” PFAS have been linked to long-term health concerns and have become an increasing focus within the fire service nationwide.
Each firefighter has been issued two complete sets of the new gear. This dual-set approach enhances operational readiness and supports best practices in gear decontamination, cleaning cycles, and longevity—allowing one set to be cleaned and dried while the second set remains immediately available for response.
The transition reflects the department’s strong commitment to firefighter health and long-term occupational safety. Becoming the first department in New Hampshire to fully outfit all members with two sets of PFAS-free turnout gear demonstrates what can be achieved through strategic planning, strong partnerships, and forward-thinking leadership.
Importantly, the transition was accomplished through careful fiscal planning and collaboration with the vendor.
The department extends special thanks to Town Manager Shaun Mullholland, as well as Justin Campo and Sara Jardim-Lee from the Finance Department, for their collaboration and support in making this initiative possible.
Most importantly, the Londonderry Fire Department expresses its deepest gratitude to the citizens of Londonderry, whose unwavering support continues to place responders in the best possible position to serve the community safely, effectively, and professionally.
The Londonderry Fire Department remains committed to prioritizing firefighter health, operational excellence, and responsible leadership in public safety. This transition represents a significant milestone in advancing firefighter safety standards both locally and statewide.
