After the Town Council voted to hire Shaun Mulholland as the new Town Manager I did a little digging into Lebanon. The Lebanon town website is rather impressive, with easy access to a number of government resources.
One area of interest is how they conduct Council meetings. I found these general guidelines:
- Members of the public may speak during the “Open to the Public” section of an upcoming City Council meeting without needing sponsorship.
- If you want your agenda item to be formally included on the meeting agenda, it must be sponsored by a Lebanon City Council member.
- Any member of the public who desires to speak on any item may do so when the item is taken up by the Council and will be allowed to speak on the subject for not more than three minutes. Note: Speakers are asked to state their name, ward of residence, and to use the microphone provided.
Number 3 allows resident to address concerns during council meetings for ‘any item’ on the agenda. While the Tow Manager cannot define rules for the Londonderry Town Council, I certainly hope he make a recommendation to implement it. Residents could voice their questions, concerns, support or opposition when items are discussed. No more waiting two or three weeks to attend a meeting to address something that has already ben acted upon.
