Town councilor Deb Paul has had a number of resident asking about the town policy considering the weather perdition for Tuesday. The Town Moderator has provided the information below.
Question:
What is the towns voting day policy if we are getting a nor’easter or a major storm? I can not imagine the town would want poll workers and residents to travel in bad weather.
RSA 659 addresses election postponement. It states “The decision to postpone shall be made on the day immediately prior to the election at any time before 6:00 p.m.” As required in the RSA I am meeting tomorrow, at noon, with representatives from the fire and police departments, public works, town clerk, chair of the town council, and town manager so we can jointly make a decision. Following that meeting we will issue a statement for public dissemination.
We also asked “How will you let voters know?”
Response Both the Town and school websites and social media, as well as press outlets.
The town is encouraging voters to go to town hall tomorrow town clerks office from 8:30 – 5:00, and Absentee vote.
