In this weeks Londonderry Times it was reported that the Londonderry Town Manager is seeking legal advise to see where the town can post legal notices.
The Town Manager has questioned if they should continue publishing legal notices in the Londonderry Times and post notices on the internet. The reasoning is that the requirement to post in the paper is “the fact that the requirement that notices be posted in a newspaper came before the advent of the internet” and would allow easier scheduling of meetings, in addition could be cheaper he goes on to say that the town continues to “err on the side of caution” by printing notices in the local paper.
The Londonderry Town Charter requires posting of some notices in the local paper.
Publication for purposes of this section shall mean the publication of a notice in any paper distributed in the Town of Londonderry, stating the number and title of the ordinance and either the text of the ordinance in full or if the full text is not published, then a brief explanation of the purpose of the ordinance and information as to where and when any interested person may obtain a copy of the complete ordinance.
Will the town form another Charter Commission to changing where legal notices can be published? Where do you think notices should be posted?
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
