Lions Hall Listening Session
Saturday, October 14, 2023, 10am-12pm
The Town of Londonderry is exploring options for the renovation and re-opening of the town-owned building at 256 Mammoth Road, familiarly called the Lions Hall after its most recent tenant. Formerly known as the Reverend William Morrison Meeting House, this space has been a gathering place in Londonderry for hundreds of years, first as a church, then a town hall, and most recently as host to community organizations and events. Parts of the structure date back as far the 1700s, making this an important physical and symbolic part of Londonderry’s long history.
The Town of Londonderry recognizes the deep connection many residents have to this building. A number of those residents expressed interest in sharing their ideas about the future of the Lions Hall. The town welcomes and encourages this input. Town administrative staff will be holding a public listening session on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Moose Hill Council Chambers at Londonderry Town Hall, 268B Mammoth Road. All town residents are welcome to attend, ask questions, and share their input. For those unable to attend, we will provide a digital submission form in advance of the meeting.
Town staff are currently in the research and development stages of the Lions Hall project. Project manager and Director of Public Works Dave Wholley is working with engineering firm Weston & Sampson to address major structural updates required to meet safety and accessibility requirements. This process will also give the Town more concrete information about the opportunities and limitations of the site. Once this initial plan is complete, staff will present it to Town Council to move the project forward. After this presentation, staff will work to refine the plan to include more detailed design, usage, and maintenance information. At this stage, staff will welcome and actively solicit community input to ensure that the revitalized Lions Hall will be a true community center, able to be utilized and enjoyed by as much of the community as possible. The presentation of the initial concept plan by Weston & Sampson is the starting point for community involvement, not a final or unchangeable concept.
