Submitted by Patrick El-Azem candidate for Budget Committee:
Dear fellow Londonderry citizens: My name is Patrick El-Azem. I am running for Budget Committee, and I would appreciate your vote on March 11. Who am I, and why am I running?
My family and I have lived in Londonderry for over 23 years. My career has been in technology, from startups to “big tech”. I have held engineering and management roles, including profit and loss, budgeting, and staffing responsibilities. I have experience in systems, software engineering, and data engineering and analysis. I have spoken at conferences, led events, and taught classes.
I have always felt lucky to live in Londonderry. Our town is safe, clean, beautiful, and well-run. We are also in a great location. With that comes ongoing residential and commercial growth, and the need to maintain a stable, fiscally responsible posture while moving the town forward.
The Budget Committee’s role is to provide a “third party” taxpayer’s perspective. As a non-partisan Advisory Board, it reviews both town and school district financial and issues recommendations, and then it is up to us voters to make the final decisions.
I would like to help carry this mission forward. I am very analytical by nature, and like to dig in, ask lots of questions, and make fact-driven decisions and recommendations. At the same time, I am very mindful to bring empathy and remember to first appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping Londonderry operational, so that our work will be together to do the best for our town.
I will bring openness and transparency to the role, including publishing the framework and data I will use for cost-benefit analysis and preparing recommendations. I will also bring expertise with software and data tools, including using modern AI tools for research and analysis.
I believe it’s critical to be factual, rational, and open to continually learning more while always being open to explaining what I do and how I do it – especially in an advisory, non-partisan role balancing taxpayer advocacy and maintaining effective local government operation.
I would be honored to receive your vote. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or comments, and I will be as responsive as possible.
Thank you for your consideration!
