Submitted by Cris Navarro candidate for Library Trustee:
Dear Residents of Londonderry,
My name is Cris Navarro and I am running for Trustee of the Library. I have lived in Londonderry for over 30 years and I am passionate about staying involved in the local government and community. Over the years in this town I ran for town council, was the Vice Chair of the Charter Commission in 2010, was an attendee of the Londonderry Leadership Program and a longtime member of the Londonderry Women’s club. Outside of community and town programs, I currently sit as the office manager at a financial planning firm where I am fully licensed. I am running for this position because our library is fundamental to the longevity of our community and I believe that I have the passion, dedication and skillset to be a trustee of the library.
Before settling down in Londonderry, I have always loved books. When I was in middle school there were summers where I would spend all day, every day at the local library for military families due to my father’s active service. They had a clawfoot tub full of pillows you could read in. Once I had kids of my own, I took them to all the events at the Leach and we would have a great time browsing through the books in the children’s room. It’s there that my son learned to love fantasy and science fiction and where my daughter learned to love mysteries and coming of age stories. Through any hardship in our personal lives or times of hardship for families in the town, the Leach Library has always been a consistent, safe and reliable place to go. Whether you are there to practice reading, learn a new language or access technology, the library stands to be an invaluable resource to our local society.
Aside from my personal passion for libraries, I also believe that it is critical that our library is well maintained and organized to remain excellent. My hope is to bring my experience as a resident, a parent, and a longtime community leader to ensure things are running as efficiently as possible. I believe that collaboration with the librarians, the current trustees and the town will help foster new opportunities for programming and keeping our library up to date as a place for all residents to have access to knowledge, stay informed and foster curiosity.
I will be at the Library Meet the Candidates on February 19th at 6:30 at the Leach Library if you’d like to meet me and ask any questions. Please vote for me at the election that will be held on March 11th.
Sincerely,
Cris (Clarissa) Navarro
