On March 12, 2024 a number of Citizens petitions passed with overwhelming majorities. One of those article was Article 18
Article 18, Yes 3085 / No 1077 – Include public input at the start and end of each meeting
After months of kicking the can down the road the Town Council addresses the article.
During the Town Council’s 4/7/2025 meeting, Chairman Runn Dunn proposed adding a second session of public comment to the councils agenda. Councilor Combes expresses skepticism, citing low attendance at the end of past meetings. Other councilors argued that this addition would allow residents to comment on topics discussed during the meeting and provide an opportunity for more thorough public input, referencing past resident requests and even a town vote supporting increased public comment from 3/12/2024. Concerns about meeting length were raised, but ultimately, the council seemed agreeable to the change.
The council voted 4-1 to adopt a second session of public comment, Councilor Combes voted against it.
At the end of the meeting Councilor Chairman Dunn asked if there was any public comment. Councilor Combes was concerned that public comment had been added to the agenda before he amended rules were adopted attempting to stop public comment. Combes was overruled by the council.
Resident Glenn Douglas, owner of the TownUnderground spoke to why public comment should be allowed citing the vote from 3/12/2024
The video below was edited to only include discussion of the public comment session. The full video can be viewed HERE
